DirDate and Symlinks

Post by opg70 »

Hello,

Is DirDate actually able to modify the datetime of Symlinks created with mklink (or any other method)?

Thanks!

If you use DirDate on a SymLink, it will change the date of the file/folder that that SymLinks points to.

What behaviour were you after?

Hello,

I was hoping to change the date of the Symlink itself - as that would allow the users to have symlinks that have the same date as the original files - we want to use FSRM to archive outdated files to a different folder and replace them with Symlinks, but the Symlinks have the date of the operation not the date of the replaced files, thus the users cannot tell the filedates of the original files (as they can only see the symlinks).

Hmm, I don't know of any way to do that yet. Sorry!

That's not encouraging :( Is there really no way to change the date of a Symlink once it's been created (or to create it with a specific date, the same as of the original file)? I was really hoping DirDate could work, as it was mentioned that Symlinks are supported.

Thanks anyway for looking into it...

Sorry - I suspect there is a way but would have to dig into Windows internals to find it.

I guess it's very complicated then :(

If you manage to dig up something, I would be very interested.

Thanks!

Apparently it is possible:

Now to see if it can be implemented...

Hmmm - doesn't look very different to the code we have already. Leave it with me! I am sure I can whip this out in a few days.
