Recursion and backtracking limit

A way into a processing run I get I get a message like this...

"The recursion and backtracking limit has been exceeded. Rewrite your pattern so it fails earlier."

Does anyone know what this is all about please?

Yes. Your pattern is poorly written. Did you look this up in the help file?
