Sorting on a tab-delimited field ?

Currently the Sort filter positional criteria can only be adjusted by specifying the start column and length.
It would be a useful enhancement to be able to sort lines in a tab-delimited text file based on a specified field (& number of fields).
i.e. Ignoring the earlier fields for the purpose of sorting lines.
Might this become feasible?
