TextPipe 12 in Windows 11 - UI text size problem - Accessibility

Today I got around to installing TextPipe Standard 12.0 in my Windows 11 x64 PC.
The first thing that hit me is the very tiny text size used in the program's GUI.
For users that need reading glasses such as myself, this makes it very difficult to use.
This is a huge difference compared to what I have been used to on my old Windows 7 PC and earlier PCs.
The text size in the GUI is even smaller than the text size in the navigation pane of TextPipe Help.
Albeit the text size of non-heading text in the help pages is also too small.
Moreover, there is no option in Preferences whereby this can be adjusted to make the program more accessible.
Please can you make the default text size in TextPipe a bit larger, as well as provide a preferences option whereby it can be adjusted.

Hi David - we don't specify the font size anywhere - we use the system font and size. There may be some Windows preferences that you can set for TextPipe that can control this.

I've not yet found out where this can be adjusted.
The font size is smaller than for the titles of all my Desktop shortcuts which are readable!

Adjusting text size in Settings - Accessibility affects only the text in TextPipe's Window Title.
It has no effect upon the text size in the rest of the UI.
cf. It does affect the text in browsers, including that for this forum.
Looks like TextPipe now fails to meet Accessibility requirements!
NB. In several jurisdictions there are specified legal requirements in this area.

Hi Simon,
Microsoft has made significant changes in Windows 11, but apparently TextPipe has not caught up with these.
Every other app that I have installed in my Windows 11 PC works just fine, and the text is a legible size.
It's only TextPipe that has this critical issue that needs fixing.
Have you actually tried running TextPipe on a Windows 11 (x64) PC ?
My PC is a Dell Inspiron 16 7610 laptop.
As I reported in February, increasing the system text size using the Accessibility settings of Windows 11 did NOT fix the legibility issue for TextPipe.
See (eg) https://winaero.com/how-to-change-text-size-in-windows-11/
Nothing in the UI nor in any of my numerous TextPipe filters became easier to read because the very small text size remained unchanged!
Although changing the Display Scale setting from the default 200% (recommended) to one of the larger options did change things, it made the text in all my other apps to be far too big, with the result that I can't read all the columns in (eg) Thunderbird.
Icons towards the right hand end of the Windows Taskbar also became so big that some were hidden in the overflow ...
If I am missing something other Windows 11 setting that TextPipe relies upon, then I don't know what it might be.
Please tell me what it is, if you know better.
If this issue cannot be quickly fixed, then I'm very disappointed, because you seem to be fobbing me off without a proper solution.
All my many years of filter development done on my old Windows 7 PC and earlier is currently almost unusable for me on the new PC.
Best regards,
David

The
Windows 11 Accessibility Text Size setting is stored in the following registry key:
Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Accessibility]
"TextScaleFactor"=dword:0000007d
The hex value
7d corresponds to 125%.
TextPipe does not use this setting.
Adjusting it makes no difference to how TextPipe displays text!

Hi David,
We will try and locate a Windows 11 computer to test against.

Simon,
It's not just the text size that's too small.
It's also the complete lack of spacing between adjacent branches in both the Filter Library and the current filter in My Filter List.
In Windows 7, there's ample spacing between branches, but in Windows 11, there's no spacing at all !!!
This is a critical issue that should be given the highest priority to solve for customers using TextPipe in Windows 11.

A whole year has gone by, yet this critical problem has not been addressed by DataMystic.
Very disappointed that the issue was simply closed because nobody else had reported it.

Hi Simon,
For almost two years, I've been unable to use TextPipe on my Dell Inspiron 16 1760 Windows 11 (x64) laptop PC.
In June 2024, the hard drive on my old Toshiba Windows 7 (x64) laptop PC (obtained in 2010) finally gave up the ghost!
My 12 month Upgrade subscription expired at the end of October 2024.
Having paid for the previous 12 months Upgrade subscription from October 2023, yet without having been able to make use of the software, I am now reluctant to purchase the Upgrade, given that there's been no reported progress in solving this critical Accessibility issue.
I have been an avid regular user of TextPipe since 2001 (originally in my former place of work, but as a home user since 2007).
I have also made numerous suggestions for enhancements and bug fixes over the years, many of which you took on board.
Please, please give this issue some priority!
David
