TextPipe Standard 8.4.1 displays as 8.4
I just installed TextPipe Standard 8.4.1 but Help About still displays it as 8.4 rather than 8.4.1
Moreover, if I check web for updates, it says A TextPipe Standard v8.4 update is available.
What's new does not list anything about 8.4.1 either.
Best regards,
David Haslam

It sounds like you didn't uninstall the old version first. Please try again

Simon,
I did uninstall the old version 8.4 first, though perhaps I missed the prompt for the computer restart.
What I downloaded yesterday has filesize = 6,480,616 bytes.
What I downloaded on 8 October has size = 6,475,472 bytes.

Re: TextPipe Standard 8.4.1 displays as 8.4
Dear Simon,
I have properly uninstalled TextPipe, restarted the PC, and then installed yesterday's download again and yet it still thinks it is version 8.4.
This is very frustrating!
This is not the first time I have encountered this behaviour when updating to a new version of TextPipe.
You really should make things simpler for users installing an update (rather than replacing an evaluation version).
Nowadays, almost all other Windows programs can be updated seamlessly without requiring a prior uninstall.
Why are Datamystic programs so different in this lack of user friendliness?
Moreover, users are not warned that they will lose all that they have programmed as Shell Extensions!
Updaters are not given any help on what steps to take to be able to preserve their Shell Extensions.
I take my own steps to export the following branch of the registry, and merge it in back in afterwards.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DataMystic\TextPipe\ShellFilters
This sort of advanced users action should not be assumed.
Why make your customers have to "jump through hoops" merely to get a more up to date software version?
Best regards,
David Haslam

Re: TextPipe Standard 8.4.1 displays as 8.4
Hi David,
I have confirmed the problem. The file sizes on the server and in development are identical which is very unusual (when going from one version to the next) so we are uploading it again. I suspect that the file was in use when it was uploaded and that this caused the problem. We are considering ways around it now. Please try again shortly.
TextPipe's Windows Shell Extension forced the uninstall/reboot behaviour on us - however we have just researched, found, applied and successfully tested a solution to go out with 8.4.2. It will notify you if Windows Explorer needs to be closed first.
We will be testing out the overwrite of the eval version next.

Hi Simon,
Just downloaded again, but file size = 6,480,616 bytes, same as for the October 14 download.
Is that correct? Or should I try again not so soon?

Dear Simon,
Your wrote last week,
IMHO, the only notification needed for version number is in Help About.
Best regards,
David Haslam

In this context it would also make sense to remove all traces of version number from the shortcuts in the TextPipe folder in the Start Menu.TextPipe's Windows Shell Extension forced the uninstall/reboot behaviour on us - however we have just researched, found, applied and successfully tested a solution to go out with 8.4.2. Hi David - have you tried the install behaviour of 8.4.2/8.4.3?

Today I installed 8.4.4 in which this seems to have been fixed.
